An unusually-flavorful and non-bitter version of Earl Grey. Not as smooth and creamy as Tea-Luxe's "Creme de Earl Grey", but most enjoyable in its own right. And being able to have it in a decaf form is a definite plus!
I have been a fan of Earl Grey Teas since I was first served a cup of this type of tea, in the sixties at the home of a friend in New York City.
I had just arrived, pretty much with hayseed still in my hair, from the mid west where I grew up on a farm.
The Earl Grey I tasted then, embodied all that was exotic and sophisticated about the brilliant creative people I found myself surrounded by in my new environs.
No other Earl Grey I have tasted over the years compared to that first cup, until I tasted Mightly Leaf Earl Grey.
It takes me back to that experience because its taste is such a perfect balance of subtle depth and gentle flavor. It is such a treat to have it as a decaf, so that I can sit leisurely after dinner with a pot of it and bask in the flavor.
This tea is all right. Its main advantage is that it lacks caffeine. (I don't like herbal infusions, so this tea is a good option to drink in the evening.) The aroma of bergamot in this tea is almost unnoticeable (at least to me). Also, there's a flavor in it that seems to me out of place, bitterish and autumnal, with a long finish.
So fragrant and delicious. Everyone I have served this tea to has become addicted. The aroma is almost like a tea perfume. It fills the room and makes drinking the tea an experience. Think again if you think that all Earl Grey's are alike. You've never tasted Earl Grey until you've had this Earl Grey.
I first had this tea at a restaurant in San Anselmo, and called literally every grocery store in Marin to try to find it for sale. No one carries this flavor of Mighty Leaf on the retail market. I've been addicted to Earl Grey Decaf for a very long time, and have only had a comparable blend at Mariage Freres in Paris.
I use the loose tea at home and carry pouches for use at friends, resturants or hotels. I wish more retailers carried the decaf earl grey.
